Creating an Abstract

The end of August, how'd that happen!  I expect there are a lot of us feeling the same way, time does seem to move faster than we want it to.

Completed a new piece, in a new colour palette and I'm really happy with how it turned out and am enjoying this palette. I've named the piece, "Heaven Declares."

Started here with my shapes, kind of had an idea in mind with this one. Then I added the webbing/netting for a wonderful textural movement throughout the piece. Decorative papers and crackle was added. I never seem to get pictures of all the texturing I do, I think it's because my hands are in such a sticky mess I never think to pick up the camera.

The texturing is left to dry for a day including my circle designs, then the first washes of paint.

Again, I give this a day to dry and allow me time to consider it and how I want to proceed in finishing it out. In this case I added some bling to the crackle as well as some splatters. I also warmed up some Cobalt blue and my funky purple and did some splattering, as you can see in the detailed shots.

I'm waiting to get my new camera next week before listing it on my website, but I do have these photos up on my Facebook Fan Page, under Available Paintings Album, if your interested in purchasing it.

I'll leave you with a few thoughts from Michele Cassou:

"You need to return to the place before your judgments took over. Every judgment or criticism brings a desire to control your images and colors. To find your freedom, you must identify and lift all the judgments that are in your way."

The World Of Art Fairs

The world of outdoor Art Fairs, you just never know what Mother Nature is going to dish up.  I had three fairs to attend in an 8 day run, it was challenging physically but I so enjoy getting out there to meet with people and hang out with my hubby for the day. In truth I couldn't do this without him!

The Dooryard Art Fair dished up a beautiful sunny day, with a lot of people out to enjoy the cool winds and hot sun.  But, the winds were so high, it was a battle to keep my tent from being ripped away, despite being anchored it just wasn't enough!  My hubby tied one leg of the tent to his chair and didn't dare get out of it for the afternoon.  As for me, I spent the afternoon hanging onto the front tent leg while chatting with people as they came.  Our son and his family hung out with us, spelling us off and Wes had to rescue several paintings as the wind upended them off their hooks!  I'm just thankful there was not serious damage done, just some touch ups to edges.  Unfortunately I was so busy holding down the fort, I never got one picture of this event and it really was a beautiful day, just too windy!

Two things learned from this experience with Mother Nature:
1. Tent weight bags holding 60lbs each ordered for all four tent legs!
2. Hubby devised a new hanging system that should hold up under stronger winds!

Next up, Art Fair On The Boardwalk and lesson learned from it:
Sometimes you just can't win with Mother Nature!

We got rained out, lightening storms and all!  Still while we waited it out for a couple of hours to see if it would clear, had a great time meeting a number of the artist from our area as they sheltered under our tent with us :-)  If you're interested I posted a brief video on my Facebook page.

Next up, Golden Unicorn Art Fair, in beautiful lake country.  You know what they say, "third time conquers."  Well that proved to be true, thank goodness.  It was an incredible summer day, no winds and lots of people turned out to enjoy the day.

I had two of my three sisters with me, including Kellie who displayed her photography. Deb kept herself busy doing some Xmas shopping, she made a number of vendors happy I think :-)  I had the best time, hanging with my sisters and husband and meeting so many interesting and wonderful people.  From the artists to the cottagers who came out to support us, linger to visit and enjoy Sarah's wonderful cooking and take in the entertainment.  What a great way to end my summer art fair tour.  Many thanks to Sarah and Len Sherman for hosting such an event, and for those who encouraged me with kind words and purchases.

Countdown To Art Festivals

Three more little pieces to box up for the art fairs on Aug 10th, in Woodstock, Aug 16th (3pm-8pm) on Boardwalk in Florenceville-Bristol, Aug 18th Golden Unicorn, Fosterville!

We've had a complication, our dog, Jazz is currently having cancerous tumours removed and will need to be watched over in the next few weeks.  She is 13 but up until a month ago has been in great health and looks and acts much younger than her 13 years.  We hope the operation will buy some time, funny how we all long for more time when the end seems near.

I'm very glad I got things ready and packed up ahead of time, we did not see this coming!
